Tracing the Hardcore Music Scene Today–
Drawing on a shared and enduring countercultural legacy, the hardcore and metalcore scenes continue to attract followers from across generations, backgrounds, and borders. In a new creative project, Stone Island traces the stylistic exchange between the US and UK hardcore scenes, and offers a glimpse of the icons shaping the subculture today.
01 VIDEO
Over the course of six months spent travelling between Europe and North America, the photographer and director Isaac Lamb documented the hardcore scene in all of its incarnations, iterations and guises.
The resulting short film is accompanied by a portfolio of reportage images, and a series of portraits of the leading figures within the scene.
02 THE BANDS
The bands featured in the project - including High Vis, Angel Du$t, Knocked Loose and Haywire 617 - embody the dynamism of hardcore culture, from the chaos of the shows to the calm of the downtime.
03 PORTRAITS
The spirit of authentic connection and artistic collaboration is best expressed in the friendship between musicians Justice Tripp, of the bands Trapped Under Ice and Angel Du$t, and Graham Sayle, of High Vis, who have been central to the progression of hardcore since the early 2000s.
04 THE ARCHIVE
Band members are photographed wearing a mix of current and vintage Stone Island garments that become a part of their personal expression.
Archival pieces - including a 1987 Tela Stella reversible jacket worn by Graham Sayle of High Vis, a 1984 Treated Denim chore jacket worn by Justice Tripp of Angel Du$t, and a 1991 Ice Camouflage bomber jacket worn by Tommy of Haywire 617 - were provided by Stone Island archivist and collaborator Archie Maher.
05 BOOK
The central output of the project is an eponymous tour book, to be released in September 2027. Shot in a mixture of colour and black and white 35mm film, it captures musicians and fans alike in an unfiltered exchange of energy, whether on stage or in the mosh pit.
